LOS ANGELES -- April 21, 2015 -- L.A.’s Golden Road Brewing and Southern California’s beloved environmental nonprofit, Heal the Bay, have teamed up with Simmzy’s Pub for the third annual unveiling of Heal the Bay IPA. This Earth Day (April 22), all three Simmzy’s locations will be privy to the first kegs and cans of summer’s favorite IPA before its market-wide launch May 1st.

The summer release of the brewery’s seasonal Custom IPA Series benefits its nominative organization - celebrating its 30th birthday this year - and the region’s watersheds through (drinkable) awareness efforts and proceeds from beer sold at local retailers and pubs.

Heal the Bay IPA’s special pre-launch parties will commence at 6 p.m. on April 22 at Simmzy’s Pubs in Long Beach, Manhattan Beach and Burbank. Meg and the Golden Road team will be on-site(s) to share a pint (or two) with event goers and give away a limited supply of special glassware. Proceeds from each pint of Heal the Bay IPA sold on Earth Day will go directly to Heal the Bay.

“I saw a Heal the Bay beach cleanup after surfing one Saturday in Santa Monica and was immediately drawn to the organization,” said Meg Gill, co-founder of Golden Road Brewing and Heal the Bay Board member. “Many of us at Golden Road have a personal connection to Heal the Bay’s mission, and as a brewery, we are equally committed to investing in protecting our local waters.”  

For 30 years, Heal the Bay has been working to preserve Southern California coastal waters through community action programs, education and partnerships like that with Golden Road. The L.A. brewery is proud to be a featured honoree at Heal the Bay’s 30th Anniversary Awards Gala. The award is a reflection of working with equally committed partners including Whole Foods, who will contribute $5,000 to the organization this year alone. Golden Road’s brewmaster, Jesse Houck, created what has become a highly acclaimed beer - one of Southern California’s three most important according to the LA Times - based on his passion for the organization as a scuba diver and a seasonal recipe synonymous with the purity of water. A mix of New Zealand (Nelson Sauvin and Motueka) and Pacific Northwest (Citra, Centennial and El Dorado) hop varietals yields a bright, summer IPA with tropical, citrus-forward flavors. Heal the Bay IPA comes in at 6.8% ABV and is 100% two-row malt.

The summer Custom IPA will also be available at the Pub at Golden Road on April 22. Beginning May 1, Heal the Bay IPA will be available on draught in bars and restaurants - including Tony’s Darts Away, Mohawk Bend and Lazy Dog Cafes - and in newly redesigned four-packs at local retailers such as Whole Foods Markets, Trader Joe’s and Costco.

Heal the Bay IPA will also be part of Golden Road’s second annual summer IPA mix pack to be released early May. The nine-pack will include three cans each of Heal the Bay IPA, Point the Way IPA and Wolf Among Weeds Imperial IPA.
